India US strategic partnership

The United States considers India as its strategic partner in the Asia pacific region, renamed as Indo-Pacific region to counter the growing hegemony of communist China. Keeping in mind the growing influence of resurgent Russia under Vladimir Putin, and Chinese alliance in the region. But does India trust America? Even though both are biggest democracies of the world, there were some political mistrust among them since the cold war.  India being the founding member of Non Aligned Movement leaned toward Soviet Union (Warsaw pact) than the American led NATO block, this may be because of the fact that the US was depending on India’s arch rival Pakistan to train Taliban against the Russians in Afghanistan.   The Soviet Union helped India to develop its nuclear and space capabilities. United States, though one of the biggest donor nations , hesitated to help India technologically. On the other hand, when India tested nuclear devices in 1999, Russia justified India’s stand
